With schools getting a deep clean, Anchorage School District plans for coronavirusMarch 16, 2020

It’s never a bad idea to do some spring cleaning.

Every school in Anchorage School District this week is going through a complete disinfection over spring break as district officials plan for what they’ll do if the new coronavirus shows up in Alaska.

“We’re going to superclean it and every surface and toy that can be in there,” said superintendent Deena Bishop.

So far there have been no cases of COVID-19 in Alaska, and the cleaning process isn’t actually that out of the ordinary for spring break, when schools typically get a good scrubbing. But this year custodians are bringing out the big guns, including seven new electrostatic sprayers that can more thoroughly coat surfaces with germ-destroying chemicals.

Local schools prepare to fight off coronavirus

BEAR, Delaware (WPVI) -- A Delaware school district demonstrated its newest tool against germs Tuesday.

New hand-held battery-powered disinfectant wands will now be used to disinfect surfaces at Kathleen Wilbur Elementary School in Bear, Delaware, spraying a fine germ-killing mist onto desks, lockers and other high-traffic areas.

"Traditionally we would have to spray it down and then we'd have to let it sit five to ten minutes and then wipe it down," said Ted Lambert, Supervisor of Facilities at Colonial School District. "With the new Protexus wand, we can actually go through and spray it down, let it sit and dry and we're good to go."

Officials with Colonial School District started budgeting for these in their schools last spring, and say the timing couldn't be better
